About the Barcode Generator
A barcode is a one-dimensional pattern of bars and spaces that scanners read to look up a product, asset or label. This free barcode generator creates the most common retail and logistics symbologies — CODE128, EAN-13, UPC-A and CODE39 — and lets you download each as a sharp PNG or a scalable SVG.
It runs entirely in your browser with no watermark and no signup, and validates your input against each symbology's rules so you don't print an unscannable barcode.
Which barcode format should I use?
- CODE128 — the general-purpose choice: encodes letters, numbers and symbols. Great for shipping labels, asset tags and internal inventory.
- EAN-13 — the 13-digit retail barcode used on products worldwide (you provide 12 digits; the check digit is added).
- UPC-A — the 12-digit retail barcode used mainly in the US and Canada (you provide 11 digits; the check digit is added).
- CODE39 — an older format for letters, numbers and a few symbols, common in automotive and defence.
How to generate a barcode

- Type the value — the hint tells you the exact length or characters allowed.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between EAN-13 and UPC-A?
Both are retail product barcodes. EAN-13 has 13 digits and is used globally; UPC-A has 12 digits and is used mainly in the US and Canada. Choose the one your retailer or region requires.
Do I need to add the check digit?
No. For EAN-13 enter 12 digits and for UPC-A enter 11 digits — the final check digit is calculated and appended automatically.
Which format is best for general use?
CODE128. It encodes letters, numbers and symbols compactly and is the standard for shipping, warehousing and internal asset or inventory labels where you're not selling through retail scanners.
Can I use these barcodes commercially?
Yes, the images are free to use. Note that to sell a product through retailers you usually need an official GS1-issued number to put inside an EAN-13/UPC-A — this tool renders the barcode image, it doesn't assign you a licensed product number.
PNG or SVG for barcodes?
Use PNG for on-screen use and everyday label printing. Use SVG when a print shop or design tool needs vector artwork that stays crisp at any size.
