WHOIS reliably shows the registrar, key dates, nameservers and status codes. What it increasingly can't show is the owner's personal contact details: since GDPR and the rise of paid privacy services, most registrant information is redacted behind a proxy. So WHOIS is excellent for checking a domain's age, expiry and registrar, but rarely reveals who actually owns it.
