Lossy vs lossless
Lossy formats (JPG, WebP) discard some detail to save space and let you choose how aggressively; lossless formats (PNG) keep every pixel. For photos, lossy at a sensible quality wins on size by a wide margin.
The quality sweet spot
- Start at 70–80% quality and lower it until you can just notice a difference, then step back up.
- Choose WebP for the smallest file — convert with the Image Converter.
