About the FD Calculator
This free FD calculator finds the maturity value of a fixed deposit. Enter your deposit, the interest rate and the tenure, and it shows the maturity amount and the interest earned, using quarterly compounding — the standard for Indian bank FDs.
It runs in your browser, with nothing uploaded.
How FD interest works
A fixed deposit locks a lump sum for a set period at a fixed rate. Indian banks typically compound the interest quarterly, so the maturity value is P × (1 + (r ÷ 4) ÷ 100)^(4 × years), where P is the principal and r the annual rate. Quarterly compounding earns slightly more than simple interest at the same rate, because each quarter's interest joins the principal.
A worked example
Deposit ₹1,00,000 at 7% for 5 years. With quarterly compounding the maturity value is about ₹1,41,478, so roughly ₹41,478 is interest. The same deposit under simple interest at 7% would earn exactly ₹35,000 — the extra comes from interest compounding on itself each quarter.
Frequently asked questions
How is FD maturity calculated?
Using compound interest, P × (1 + (r ÷ 4) ÷ 100)^(4 × years) for quarterly compounding. The calculator computes this and shows the interest earned separately.
Why quarterly compounding?
Most Indian banks compound FD interest every quarter, so this tool uses that by default. Your bank's exact payout can differ slightly depending on its method and day-count.
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes, FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab, and banks deduct TDS above a threshold. This calculator shows the pre-tax maturity value.
FD or RD — what's the difference?
An FD deposits a lump sum once; an RD deposits a fixed amount every month. For monthly deposits, use the RD Calculator.
