About the EPF Calculator
This free EPF calculator projects the corpus you'll build in your Employees' Provident Fund by retirement. Enter your monthly basic salary, the EPF interest rate, your years to retirement and expected annual salary growth, and it estimates the final corpus.
It runs in your browser, with no signup.
How EPF builds up
Each month a share of your basic salary goes into EPF — 12% from you and 3.67% from your employer (the other 8.33% of the employer's 12% goes to the EPS pension scheme). That combined 15.67% earns interest, compounded, and as your salary rises the monthly contribution grows too. Over a long career this compounding turns modest monthly amounts into a large retirement corpus.
A worked example
On a ₹25,000 monthly basic at an 8.25% EPF rate for 20 years with no salary growth, roughly ₹3,917 goes in each month (15.67% of basic). Compounded over 240 months, the corpus grows well beyond the ₹9.4 lakh contributed. Add a few percent of annual salary growth and the corpus rises substantially, since later contributions are larger.
Frequently asked questions
How is the EPF corpus calculated?
Monthly contributions (employee 12% + employer 3.67% of basic) are compounded at the EPF rate until retirement. This tool accounts for annual salary growth so later contributions are larger.
How much of my salary goes to EPF?
You contribute 12% of basic and your employer contributes 12%, but 8.33% of the employer's share goes to the EPS pension. So about 15.67% of basic reaches the EPF corpus, which is what this tool uses.
What is the current EPF interest rate?
The EPF rate is declared each year by the EPFO and has recently been around 8.25%. Enter the applicable rate, since it changes annually.
Is EPF taxable?
EPF is largely tax-free (EEE) if you stay invested for five years, though interest on very high contributions can be taxable. This calculator shows the pre-tax corpus.
Is my salary data private?
