How SSY works

Sukanya Samriddhi is a government scheme for a girl child's education and marriage. You make deposits for the first 15 years, but the account keeps earning compound interest until it matures 21 years after opening — so the corpus grows for six more years even without fresh deposits. Deposits, interest and maturity are tax-free under the EEE regime, and the scheme usually carries one of the highest small-savings rates.

A worked example

Deposit ₹1,50,000 a year at 8.2% for the 15 deposit years, then let it grow to the 21-year maturity. You invest ₹22.5 lakh in deposits, and the corpus compounds well past that — with the extra six growth years adding a large chunk of tax-free interest on top of the deposit phase.

Frequently asked questions

How is Sukanya Samriddhi maturity calculated?

Deposits compound annually for the 15 deposit years, then the whole corpus keeps compounding until 21 years from opening. This tool models both phases to give the maturity value.

Is SSY tax-free?

Is my data uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser.
