Grade Calculator
🔒 In your browserWork out a weighted grade from assignments, midterm & final.
How it works
Work out your overall grade from components that count for different amounts — assignments, quizzes, midterm, final. Enter each component's score (as a percentage) and its weight, and get your weighted average.
Weights don't have to add up to 100 — they're normalised automatically, so 30/30/40 and 3/3/4 give the same result.
🔒 Calculated entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
🔒 Calculated in your browser: your marks, grades and dates are never uploaded. Grading rules and conversion formulas vary by board and university, so treat the result as a reliable estimate and confirm anything official with your institution.
About the Grade Calculator
This free grade calculator works out your overall grade when different parts of a course count for different amounts — assignments, quizzes, a midterm and a final. Enter each component's score and its weight, and get your weighted average.
It calculates in your browser, and the weights don't even need to add up to 100.
How weighting works
Your final grade isn't a plain average of your scores — each component pulls with a different force. A 90% on a final worth 50% matters far more than a 90% on a quiz worth 5%. The calculator multiplies each score by its weight, adds them up, and divides by the total weight, so the result reflects what each part is actually worth.
A worked example
Suppose assignments are worth 20% and you scored 85, the midterm is 30% at 72, and the final is 50% at 68. Multiply each: 85 × 20 = 1700, 72 × 30 = 2160, 68 × 50 = 3400. Add them (7260) and divide by the total weight of 100: your overall grade is 72.6% — much closer to the final's 68 than to the assignment's 85, because the final carries half the course.
Frequently asked questions
Do the weights have to add up to 100?
No. They're normalised automatically, so weights of 30/30/40 give the same result as 3/3/4 — use whatever numbers match your syllabus.
How is a weighted grade calculated?
Each component's score is multiplied by its weight; those are summed and divided by the total weight. That gives more influence to components that count for more.
What if I haven't taken every component yet?
You can leave out ungraded components and see your standing so far, but the result then reflects only what's been graded. To plan what you still need on a specific exam, use the Final Grade Calculator.
Can I mix percentages and raw marks?
Convert everything to the same basis first — ideally percentages. A 42/50 quiz is 84%; enter 84 with its weight so all components are comparable.
Can I use it to plan what I need?
For a target on a specific final exam, use the Final Grade Calculator, which tells you the exact score you need to reach a goal.
