SGPA Calculator
🔒 In your browserCalculate a semester's SGPA from course credits and grade points.
How it works
Calculate your SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) for one semester. Enter each course's credits and the grade point you earned (usually on a 10-point scale in India). SGPA is the credit-weighted average of those grade points.
Grading rules vary by board and university. This is a general estimate — always confirm with your institution's official method.
🔒 Calculated entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
🔒 Calculated in your browser: your marks, grades and dates are never uploaded. Grading rules and conversion formulas vary by board and university, so treat the result as a reliable estimate and confirm anything official with your institution.
About the SGPA Calculator
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is your grade point average for a single semester. This free SGPA calculator computes it from each course's credits and the grade point you earned — the credit-weighted average that most Indian universities use.
It runs in your browser, with no signup.
How SGPA works
Each course has a credit value and a grade point (usually on a 10-point scale in India). SGPA weights the grade points by credits: sum of (grade point × credits) divided by total credits. A high grade in a 4-credit course therefore moves your SGPA more than the same grade in a 2-credit course.
From SGPA to CGPA
Your CGPA is built from your semester SGPAs, again weighted by credits. Calculate each semester's SGPA here, then combine them in the CGPA Calculator for your cumulative average.
A worked example
A semester has four courses: 4 credits at grade point 9, 3 credits at 8, 3 credits at 7, and 2 credits at 10. Multiply and add: 36 + 24 + 21 + 20 = 101 grade-credit points. Divide by the 12 total credits and your SGPA is 8.42. The 4-credit course at 9 pushes the average up more than the 2-credit course at 10, because credits — not the raw grade — decide how much each course counts.
Frequently asked questions
How is SGPA calculated?
It's the credit-weighted average of a semester's grade points: sum of (grade point × credits) for each course, divided by the total credits for the semester.
What grade point scale should I use?
Most Indian universities use a 10-point scale, so enter grade points from 0 to 10. The calculator works with any scale as long as you're consistent.
What grade point does each letter map to?
It varies by university, but a common 10-point scheme is O=10, A+=9, A=8, B+=7, B=6, C=5, P=4. Check your grade card for the exact mapping, then enter the numeric grade point here.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA?
CGPA combines all your semester SGPAs, weighted by each semester's credits. Use the CGPA Calculator once you have each semester's SGPA.
Does a backlog or re-exam affect SGPA?
Usually the improved grade replaces the earlier one once cleared, so recompute your SGPA with the updated grade point. Follow your university's rule on whether the original attempt still counts.
Is my data private?
Yes — the calculation runs entirely in your browser.
